There is no way around it. Your resume is your proxy, your stand in, and the best representation of your work to an employer who has never met you. At 8 1/2 x 11 inches, your resume can slip through doors, land on desks, and introduce you to people you've never met. If your resume isn't written correctly, it can kill your chances at an interview in 5 seconds flat. That's all the time your proxy gets to make a first impression.

When looking for a job, no document is more important than your resume, and that is why it always stumped me when I was a hiring manager to see so many awful resumes.

To know that hiring managers spend about 5 seconds previewing a resume before deciding to read further means that your resume has one purpose only. Your resume should be geared toward getting you an interview.

To recount your entire job history, to input unnecessary and often detrimental information are signs of inexperience.

You resume is the only thing that stands between you and an interview.

Your resume is your proxy. The small 8 1/2 x 11 inch single piece of paper must be you. Advocate you. Speak for you. And convince a hiring manger to want to interview you.

There is no secret formula to it like the coke a cola recipe, but if you are an amateur writer, you will surely miss the mark and chances are that your resume will be overlooked in the first five second review.

Your resume is your advocate. Because of its small size, it can fit through doors, sit on desks, get passed from person to person. In other words, it can get into doors and make introductions that you yourself can not gain entrance into. Yet.

Your resume equals your work quality. At first glance, your resume is your work. No matter what industry you work in, writing and presentation of your resume equals your work quality whether it be automotive assembly, legal writing, or java coding, your resume tells your future employer many things about your work ethic, quality of work, and responsibility.

when it comes to writing your resume, make sure it is your best effort. If you are an expert resume writer, most likely, don't need to read this. If not, get a book, review the tips and tricks in this site, or best yet, spend a few bucks and let an expert resume writer do the work for you.

I've tried several times in the past to suggest only tactics that are completely free. It's not really possible. If you are strapped for cash, I do suggest alternatives. And, If you take action on the free stuff, you will have a good job search strategy in place, one that will serve you well.

The advantages of having a well-rounded job search strategy in place is that you will not only find more great jobs, you will interview more, and you will feel confident that in your window of opportunity , you found the majority of the opportunity that were available to you.

On the other hand, if you pursue only one or two tactics, you will do a mediocre job at your job search and only you will be to blame for not finding the best open job available to you.

Take on one tactic a day, and in a week you'll have a method in place that will:

Save weeks or months on your job search

Find at least 95% more job openings than the average job seeker

Be considered for jobs that are never advertised

Get employers and recruiters searching for and calling you

Start interviewing with companies in about one week

Have any company insider introduce you and deliver your resume to hiring managers

Expand your professional network exponentially

Get a legion of recruiters & headhunters working for you

Take control of your job search and get measurable results

Learn how to professionally market yourself and your skills to companies who are wanting to find you

Write a resume that gets the results you want . . . interviews

Accomplish all of this with little or no budget
