ADD/ADHD is sometimes called a “hidden disability.” It seems that most people are not readily aware of our ADD/ADHD. Our disability has its roots in biology as well as behavior, and half the time, we don’t even understand why we act the way we do! After hearing for years that we are lazy, daydreamers, impulsive – and possibly other things that we can’t print here! – no wonder we have suffered in the self-esteem department. Just how do we overcome that in order to feel good about ourselves?

1. Find the positive. Having ADD/ADHD is only part of who you are. Don’t define yourself in terms of that. Find other things about yourself that are positive. You may not always feel it, but you have plenty of strengths!

2. Make your life disciplined and punctual which helps you schedule your work and keep troubles away. This attitude turns you organized and you are able to finish your work in appropriate time. It boosts up your morale by developing strength in you.

3. Do proper breathing. Usually ADD sufferers turn impulsive and work in haste but the next moment regret for doing blunders. Embarrassing situations come when you realize your act had actually offended someone. Prepare yourself through some breathing and gathering of thoughts before a reaction. A preferable option can be taking time and requesting someone to offer you opportunity for appropriate response. You will have enough time to think before responding. It will also help you from doing mistakes. You will not need to say sorry later.

4. Don’t give up. If your symptoms still don’t seem manageable, keep looking for the treatment that is right for you! What works for your ADHD son or your ADD friend may not work for you and that is all right. One of the hardest things about ADD/ADHD is that it can look different in every person who has it. Keep asking questions, doing your research, and finding the right professionals to help you.

5. Have good sense of humor. You may suffer from ADD which is problematic but think about other’s sufferings and learn from them. When you think upon it everything becomes reciprocal. Find the ways to keep yourself in humor. Nothing is perfect, so do you. You will have moral boost up as your position is not as low as you think. You should not take things sportingly so manage your ADD. It doesn’t mean you keep worrying.

If you think your self-esteem is really low because of what you’ve been told about yourself through the years, you might want to get some counseling. Often it is hard to see things from a different perspective, but that is exactly what you need to do. It also helps to “talk through” some of your issues and see yourself in a better, happier light instead of letting your poor self-esteem define you.

This article unfolds some pertinent methods which can be applied as systematic preventive measures. The best methodologies used to maintain blood sugar level in a collective manner proves worthy. The debate came up with some fruitful result dealing with ADD/ADHD. We became aware of the problematic consequences of abnormalities which affect general health level and their causes due to the abnormalities resulting through both higher and lower levels of glucose in the bloodstream. These problems might turn severe for those who suffer with ADD/ADHD effecting severely. These abnormalities not only create emotional instability but also land the sufferer facing the phenomenon of lacking a particular goal. Keeping these crucial aspects in consideration, you must apply excellent measures so that best cure is dreamed.

Controlling ‘natural’ blood sugar becomes unmanageable in some special cases. It is therefore mandatory to know the important complexities before we move ahead. The chronic cases amount to approximately 5% of the total diabetic population. The diabetic sufferers undergo lack of insulin and their bodies too turn insensitive to it. Ultimately blood sugar starts showing varying effects and don’t remain normal or under control. Proper medication is required at this crucial juncture. Insulin injections are best in keeping your body in normal course of functioning. It should be noted that not all forms of diabetes have symptoms from childhood. Type 2 diabetes develops in the later years of life. You should consult an expert doctor to confirm your doubts if you are suspicious that you are suffering from any of these types. You should not risk your health by blindly following the techniques discussed here and in subsequent articles. Although the advices discussed here are similar to your doctor’s suggestion, it is always best to consult an expert physician for best cure.

Main motto of our discussion is description of ‘blood glucose’ often defined ‘blood sugar’. Digestive process plays crucial role in developing a mechanism in which several energy sources are transformed into glucose. Once this process completes, it is shifted accordingly into blood streams as an active energy resource. Carbohydrates as existing source of energy effectively transform into glucose. Such systematic functioning makes carbohydrates preferred energy provider of your body. As carbohydrates are created with different connotations their impact after digestion differs in the body. Such variations affect one’s blood sugar level. Coordination between carbohydrate digestion and blood sugar levels are like this:

Simple Carbohydrates: With an addition of ‘pure’ sugars, simple carbohydrates provide best impact for the timely blood sugar level. Such phenomenon develops due to urgent and proper molecular breakdown of digestive system, which leads for active transformation of glucose. It is realized that simple sugar has irrefutable affect on blood sugar level which at times turns spiky. Its outcome is seen after 30 minutes of ingestion or in less time.

Complex Carbohydrates: As complex carbohydrates including starches are equipped with many complex molecular structures, their outcome is different taking more time to become glucose. At times this may take up to two hours or less to reach desired energy level particularly when complex carbohydrate is processed for taking shape of glucose and generating energy.

Very Complex Carbohydrates: A few types of carbohydrates like dietary fibers are prepared in highly complicated molecular style. In the digestive tract they create extreme resistant to enzymes hence this phenomenon cause newer problems in which digestive tracts often remain in undigested condition. Resultantly the rate of digestion goes slow heavily affecting the digestion of carbohydrates. Other complications follow when the effect of blood sugar levels varies due to an intake of such carbohydrates. Often compared to ‘drip feeding’, it releases smaller glucose in longer time period.

So how do we measure the impact of carbohydrate rich foods on blood sugar levels? The answer to this question should be familiar to long term readers. The easiest way to do this is to make use of the Glycemic Index (GI). The Glycemic Index simply measures the speed at which energy, from different kinds of carbohydrates, is released into the blood stream. In simple terms High GI foods will lead to very rapid swings in blood sugar levels, with Low GI foods releasing energy over a longer period. It does not take a rocket scientist to work out that the preference for anyone aiming at balanced blood sugar levels should be for the latter! This is especially important in the light of the previous discussions on brain function and nutrition where it was pointed out that the brain’s as the ‘energy hungry’ nerve centre of the body should be powered up consistently and efficiently at all times. Energy spikes are neither consistent nor efficient but rather the brain equivalent of a car belching and shuddering along a freeway! The good news is that such spikes are totally unnecessary. Next week we will take a closer look at some practical tips on using a Low GI diet to control blood sugar. This is one of the best ways to move from ’stop-start’ to cruising!

When doing standard therapy for depression many issues show up and it is difficult to navigate through them. Working through these issues one by one can take many years. Even if eventually successful with these issues, in many cases the depression still does not go away. There is a good reason for this. But there is another kind of therapy, which is both fast and deep. It resolves not only the issues but the underlying depression in one fell swoop.

We begin our lives being intuitive, happy and playful. Challenging circumstances of relationships and events in our youth frequently cause us to stop the flow of our intuition. When this happens many times, the blocking of intuition becomes a habit. With our intuition blocked we don’t feel alive any more.

It is simply impossible to be happy without the power, the joy and the guidance that intuition brings to your life. It is impossible to know who you are, what you like and what you truly want.

It is natural to be intuitive but we learn to block access to it. Lets say for example that we need love as children. If our parents do not give us love, we suffer. We start to believe that our intuitive need for love is not good. The truth is that our intuition was right and as children we have to be loved. But as a result of our mistaken perception we prevent ourselves from feeling the need for love. This becomes a habit and we end up disconnecting from our intuition.

And what a sad life it becomes. Without knowing what you want, how can you ever be happy? It is not surprising that people who had blocked their intuition now feel that their lives are meaningless. This is part of what depression is. Therapists have looked far and wide for its causes and solutions. The answer is closer and more natural than most think. The blocking of intuition creates depression and the unblocking of intuition eliminates it.

The intuitive approach to art therapy gives you a way to unblock your intuition in a very short time. There is no need to be an artist. You simply use the tools of art because they are more direct than words. With this method your intuition starts flowing immediately. It uncovers the blockages, dissolves them and guides you to meaningful living and happiness.

Blocked intuition brings about many secondary issues. For example: You may start to believe that you don’t deserve to be who you are and do what you want. You may believe that you are a bad person.

Some people respond to this early frustration with anger that turns outwards toward other people. Others, usually women, learn to turn their aggression inward and to punish themselves in different ways. All of this is another aspect of depression, which is a secondary effect. Even if you succeed in resolving this secondary outer or inner aggression, there will still be problems because the underlying lack of intuition will create new ones. So it is crucial to dissolve the habitual pattern of blocking intuition.

With the use of intuition in art therapy it is possible to bring the root cause to the surface right at the beginning of the therapy and dissolve it successfully. When we do this first, the anger and self punishment, along with many other possible secondary issues, become useless to the patient. They dissolve by themselves and there is no need to deal with them at all. This is how powerful intuitive art therapy is for depression.

Premature death of large quantities of brain cells is what characterizes Dementia. Dementia is a progressive and degenerative disease that causes the patient to experience memory loss and disorientation due to the loss of nerve cells in the brain. This disease will progress over many years. Seventy-five percent of todays elderly age 65 or older are estimated to experience symptoms of this debilitating disease. Generally, dementia will not present itself before the age of 60.

As of today, there is no known cause for dementia. However, there are several theories including prolonged exposure to copper and aluminum present in food, cookware, antacids and antiperspirants. In addition, it has also been discovered that vitamin deficiencies including B12, zinc, potassium, selenium and boron was present in most dementia patients. Furthermore, it was also discovered that genetics, environmental and pharmaceutical toxins, autoimmune factors, brain injury/trauma, cholinergic nerve destruction due to excitatory amino acids, gluten sensitivity or allergy to wheat, hypothyroidism, elevated homocysteine levels and excess cortisol from adrenals, which destroy optimal brain functioning were additional factors in the cause of dementia.

Initial symptoms of dementia include loss of memory, cognitive decline, inability to carry out common tasks of everyday living, inability for abstract thought, and impaired judgment. As the disease progresses, forgetfulness becomes severe memory loss, particularly when dealing with short-term events. Later symptoms can also include loss of personal vitality, changes in personality (to include anxiety, mood swings and apprehension), and ineffective movement. Mathematical calculations may also become difficult, indicating a decrease in intellectual ability in addition to becoming unable to find the right words. These symptoms can typically intensify at night with involuntary actions, incontinence, belligerence and violent behavior. However, some victims become more docile and withdrawn.

It is important to keep in mind that some prescription drugs can cause age-related symptoms such as described above. In addition, certain drugs can cause memory deficits or altered psychological behavior. Therefore, be sure to assess the patient thoroughly and carefully prepare nutritious meals that are high in vitamin B. It has been found that many older individuals suffer from malnutrition, which can cause a number of psychological symptoms ranging from depression to dementia. Consequently, it is vital that diet be assessed and that vitamin and mineral supplements are added to determine if nutritional depletion is the cause.

Subcortical and cortical are the two broad categories of dementia. The area of the brain that is being affected determines which category of dementia is present.

Parkinsons disease, Huntington’s disease, and AIDS dementia complex are examples of subcortical dementia. These diseases affect the area of the brain below the cortex. Most often, personality changes, attention span and the slowing down of thought processing are the results of this form of the disease.

Language and memory are the areas affected by cortical dementias. They are a result of a disorder affecting the cerebral cortex which is the outer layer of the brain. The most commonly known diseases associated with this form include Alzheimer’s and Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease. Patients afflicted with these two diseases experience extreme memory impairment and the inability to recall words and understand common language, also known as aphasia. Furthermore, multi-infarct dementia can occur where both areas of the brain are affected.
